Sex scam hits Thettayil, son
Kochi: Aluva police on Sunday registered a case against former minister and Angamaly MLA Jose Thettayil and his son, Adarsh, following a charge of sexual harassment, leading to his offer to give up his legislator post.
The duo was booked on a complaint lodged by a 30-year-old woman from Manjapra in Aluva with Ernakulam Rural superintendent of police. It said the two had been sexually exploiting her for the past six years after a promise that she could marry Adarsh. The case has been registered under non-bailable rape charges (IPC 376) with Thettayil as first accused and his son the second. Home minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has directed crime branch superintendent of police S. Ajeetha Begum to head the team to probe the matter.
The woman also submitted video clip showing her and the MLA in a compromising position.
Thettayil comes handy for UDF
Thiruvananthapuram: When the Assembly session resumes on Monday after a three-day break, it’s going to be a ‘win-win’ situation for both the ruling front and the Opposition.
With the LDF’s proposed Assembly and collectorate marches set to take place on Monday demanding Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s resignation in the light of the solar panel fraud case, the Oommen Chandy government is expected to feel the heat.
But with the Aluva police registering a case against former minister and Angamaly MLA Jose Thettayil on charges of sexual abuse, the UDF will find itself armed with a ‘counter weapon’ to strike the Opposition with.
To counter the Opposition’s attack, the UDF has organised the first of its regional political explanation meetings in the capital city on Monday evening at Gandhi Park grounds. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala and UDF leaders will be speaking at the public function.
On Thursday, legislators of both fronts were almost on the verge of exchanging blows which forced Speaker G. Karthikeyan to adjourn the House. But deputy opposition leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said they were going ahead with their demand for Chandy’s resignation.
“He should step down and face inquiry in the solar panel case”, said Kodiyeri. So far only six days’ discussions on the budget have been held. If the uproar in the Assembly goes out of control in the coming days, the session will have to be cut short. But Karthikeyan said it was the prerogative of the government to decide on whether the session would have to be cancelled or not.
“Depending on the situation prevailing, the government will have to take an appropriate decision. First of all, it has to be recommended and only then can further action be taken”, said Karthikeyan.
