Senior IPS office Jaffer Sait suspended
Senior IPS officer and former Tamil Nadu Intelligence chief M.S. Jaffer Sait was today suspended by the government, a week after he and some others came under a vigilance probe in connection with a land allotment scam, sources said.
Sait, considered to have wielded significant clout as ADGP (Intelligence) in the previous DMK regime, was shunted out of the high-profile assignment and posted as Special Officer at Mandapam Refugees Camp after the AIADMK Government took over.
He was one of the persons who had come under the scanner of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on July 26 when the agency sleuths raided the premises of Sait and some others in connection with the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) scam that has surfaced during the previous DMK regime.
A case has been registered against him and others under various IPS sections and the Prevention of Corruption Act for offences including criminal conspiracy and cheating.
Party chief M. Karunanidhi, then Chief Minister, had denied any wrongdoing in the discretionary quota of allotment.
