Securitymen raise fears on UID data
The government’s much-hyped Unique Identification Number project may run into rough weather with the security agencies raising strong objections to the biometric database being collected by the UID Authority, saying neither the data
nor the UID number can be used for any internal security purpose as this may not be “foolproof”.
Top government sources said the security agencies have now written to the UID Authority, which works under the Planning Commission, saying the UID number may not eventually eliminate duplicate and fake identities. This will now be discussed by the Cabinet committee on UID.
