Security up for Rajasthan Gujjar stir

Security has been beefed up in four Gujjar- dominated districts of eastern Rajasthan following community leaders’ call to block rail traffic on Monday. The Gujjar leaders have asked the state government to immediately enforce five per cent quota in jobs or postpone the recruitment drive.
The Gujjar leader Col. K.S. Bainsla addressed a meeting of his community members at a village under Bharatpur district and appealed to Gujjars to come out on Monday to press the demand for quota. “The state government made an accord with us and promised five per cent quota in government jobs, but it has not been implemented,” said community leader Dr Roop Singh.
Factionalism also surfaced in the community as two rival groups of Gujjars are vying to grab the leadership.
One section led by Ramveer Singh Bidhuri staged a sit-in at village Pichupara under Dausa district on Sunday. Mr Bidhuri criticised Col. Bainsla, saying he misused the community. Both groups criticised each other.
State government sources indicated that the quota issue was pending with the high court and the court had granted a stay on reservation. The state government has launched a recruitment drive and announced it would recruit over one lakh employees.
