Security check may take 4 hrs
The spectators turning up for attending the opening ceremony for the Commonwealth games will have to brave well over four hours on account of security checks and other arrangements being put in place around Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium where the mega sporting event will kick off on October 3. The police officials said that at least
606 police control room vans and and 14 tourist PCR vans will be used during the games. While 25 PCR vans will be doing the rounds of the main stadium during the opening ceremony, eight PCR vans will be stationed at games village and a four-tier security ring will be thrown around the games venues to secure the place. “There will be a PCR van at each gate to the stadium and all the routes leading to the venue will be manned by these vans. A special contingent of vehicles with specially trained commandos will be manning the areas around the stadium,” a top police official said.
The police officials said that the spectators will be sent inside the stadium in phases to avoid any chaos which can cause stampede and they will be handed a list of “do’s and don’ts” which are being prepared by the Delhi police. “We are making a list of do’s and don’ts which will be handed out to spectators. The evacuation plan of the stadium along with this list will be pasted on the back of the seats in the stadium,” Mr Karnal Singh, joint commissioner of police, said.
The sources revealed that the spectators will have to park their vehicles at certain designated places.
