Security alert to keep Advani flying in TN
Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, who arrives in Chennai on Wednesday evening on a two-day trip as head of a 15-member parliamentary panel, will use a helicopter to visit Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station and the Chennai Petroleum Corporation plant in Manali.
Sources said Advani had originally planned to drive from his hotel to the two inspection places with his team but changed his mind following a request by security agencies.
City joint police commissioner Shanmuga-rajeswaran led a team of high-ranking state and central police personnel in discussions over security arrangements for the BJP leader.
Since road travel has been replaced by helicopter hopping, Advani would be able to finish his engagements and fly back to Delhi early Friday morning. He was to return Saturday as per the original schedule.
“Mr Advani is in the z-plus category; besides, there have been a couple of instances where extremists targeted him during TN trips,” a senior police officer said.
