School test attacks DMK leaders
Punctuate the following sentence: ‘Maran said I have looted the nation’s wealth, so I can buy votes in the election’.
Which of the options given below suits the sentence? ‘If he had taught his daughter the tactics of scientific corruption — a) She would have got punished b) She would not have got punished c) She would have been punished’.
These and many more mischievous questions were part of class-X English language question papers set by the private Chavara Vidya Bhavan Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Vadavalli in Coimbatore for a recent revision exam.
A parent who distributed copies of the question papers to the media said: “Just to appease the ruling AIADMK, the question paper setters played mischief by indiscriminately criticising DMK leader M. Karunanidhi, his daughter Kanimozhi and grandnephew and former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran.â€
Parents complained even during the first revision test held on January 20, 2012, a grammar question had this: ‘Nobody can forget how he cheated the people of Tamil Nadu for five decades’. The reference obviously was to Mr Karunanidhi.
Targeting the DMK leader, another question in the same section (rewrite into passive voice) read: ‘He said to Tamilians, if you throw me into the sea, I will swim to the shore and continue cheating you’.
