SC seeks file on appointment of Bikram Singh as Army chief
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Centre to place before it file pertaining to appointment of Lt. Gen. Bikram Singh as Army Chief-designate.
The apex court would go through the document pertaining to appointment of the Army chief at 2 pm, it is said. Hearing a PIL challenging the appointment of Bikram Singh as next Army chief, the court refused to hold 'in-camera' proceedings.
However, the Supreme Court made it clear it would not go again into the age row of the outgoing Army Chief while hearing the PIL against the appointment of Bikram Singh.
The Centre opposed the writ plea saying it has been filed with malafide intention and for raising the age controversy again.
The apex court asked the Centre whether the allegations against Bikram Singh placed before the Cabinet Committee on Appointments when his name was cleared for the next Army Chief.
Also, the court restrained the petitioners, including former Naval Chief Admiral L. Ramdas from making 'bald' allegations against Bikram Singh.
