SC lets Italian ship leave as terms met
The Supreme Court on Wednesday finally ordered the release of Italian cargo vessel MT Enrica Lexie, seized by the Kerala police two and a half months ago after its two marine guards shot dead two fishermen off the Indian coast.
The ship was allowed to leave with all six crew and four other marines on board after conditions set by the court were fulfilled.
A bench of Justices R.M. Lodha and H.L. Gokhale allowed the ship’s voyage, carrying crude oil, after it got a commitment from the Italian government that it would ensure the four marines on board appeared before the Kerala police and the court when required in the case.
