SC defers hearing on former CJI PIL
The Supreme Court on Friday deferred hearing on a PIL seeking probe into the assets of NHRC chairman and former CJI K.G. Balakrishnan’s kin even as a status report on a complaint sent to the vice-president on the issue in 2010 has been submitted to the top court.
During a brief hearing when counsel M.L. Sharma, who has filed the PIL tried to submit additional details about the assets of Justice Balkirshnan’s two sons-in-law and their family members, a bench of Chief Justice of India S.H. Kapadia and Justices K.S. Radhakrishnan and Swatanter Kumar refused to take it directly on record and asked him to file it through the registry.
Attorney-General Goolam E. Vahanvati, who was asked by the bench on February 18 to apprise the court about the status of the complaint against Justice Balakrishnan, sent to the vice-president by a journalist in 2010, however, did not get any chance to make his submission on Friday as the matter was adjourned.
