... Says state will consider Vidarbha
Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday said people of the state will take a considered view on the issue of a seperate state for Vidarbha.
Mr Chavan who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi during the day, was talking to reporters.
When his attention was drawn to the demand of a Vidarbha state following the CWC’s resolution in favour of a Telangana state, he said they should let the process of the formation Telangana state complete first. While Congress leaders from Vidarbha have been pressing the demand of seperate state, they have not raised this before the party high command yet after the CWC resolution, he said. The Congress, BJP and the NCP are in favour of bifurcation of Maharashtra following split in its neighbouring state Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh is could bifurcate any time.
A section of the Congress view that it would not be a viable state. They said Maharashtra is capable of facing any challenge which a small sate cannot. It is a developed state and this can help Vidarbha in bringing them to the mainstream of development, they feel.
