Sarkozy backs UNSC bid
Bengaluru, Dec. 4: The French President, Mr Nicolas Sarkozy, commenced his four-day tour by joining the growing line of world leaders who have pledged their support for India’s bid to secure a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and its entry into the NSG.
A permanent seat at the UNSC would help India “assume its full role within the G-20”, Mr Sarkozy, the current chairman of the G-20, said. He said it was “unthinkable” to keep a country of over one billion out of the UNSC.
Later on Saturday he found time to take his wife, Ms Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, to see the Taj Mahal. He had been unable to do so on his last visit as Ms Bruni-Sarkozy, not his wife at that time, had been unable to accompany him and he had to go alone.
