Sankaracharya asks people to participate in democratic process
Jagat Guru Sankaracharya Swami Swarupananda Saraswati Maharaj of Dwarika Pith on Tuesday asked people to remain alert and to participate in the democratic process to save the country from turmoil.
"To protect the country and its democratic system, people should remain alert and exercise their franchise in the elections", Sankaracharya told reporters here.
"Corruption is increasing day by day due to multiple parties and coalitions", he said replying to a question on increasing corruption.
"Politicians had been indulging in corruption due to uncertainity of their future and governments in the states and at the Centre," he said.
Replying to a question regarding bringing back the huge black money stashed in foreign banks, Sankaracharya said because of "faulty" Income tax system, rich people and political leaders could take money out of country on the pretext of safe deposit to avoid paying income tax.
Strongly criticising conversion, he said government should keep an eye on the conversion.
There should be a tab on the foreign money coming to the country in the form donations to different religious organisations, The Sankaracharya said adding that it should routed through the government.
"Why and for what purpose and from whom it is coming the government should keep track over it", he said.
