Sanctuary to get facelift
Nellore: Finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy said that they would put in their efforts to get national-level recognition for the Birds’ Sanctuary located at Nelapattu near Sullurpeta in SPSR Nellore district.
He was speaking to local media persons when he came along with Speaker Nadendla Manohar and social welfare minister Pithani Satyanarayana to witness the birds nesting in the sanctuary at Nelapattu on Thursday.
Expressing satisfaction over the development works in progress at the birds’ sanctuary, he said that the government would allocate funds to give a facelift to the area.
The ministers, who saw the variety of birds thro-ugh binoculars, said that Nelapattu is the only place where the visitors can see the birds from short distance. They appeared elated after noticing different kinds of migratory birds nesting on the trees in the tank at Nelapattu.
Mr Manohar had a word of praise for Sri City SEZ management for providing caps to the students visiting the sanctuary.
Principal chief conservator of forest A.V. Joseph said that they would take necessary steps to develop the Nelapattu Bird’s sanctuary. Stressing that the place is much better than what it was before, he said that they would prepare an action plan to develop the sanctuary further. He said that they would initiate action if there was any lapse with respect to quality in the works being carried out at the sanctuary.
Meanwhile, large number of visitors turned up for the sanctuary and also to the nearby Pulicat lake to see the rare birds on the last day of the Flamingo Festival. Forest department has posted some guides to explain about the birds to the visitors. Sullurpeta legislator Parasa Ratnam, Gudur legislator Balli Durga Prasad, Nellore town legislator M. Sreedharkrishna Reddy, MLC Vakati Narayana Reddy was also present with the ministers.
