Sanaullah goes back to Pak, in a coffin
The body of Sanaullah Ranjay was handed over to Pakistani authorities around 4 pm after doing post-mortem and completing other legal formalities.
The body of Sanaullah was taken to Chandigarh airport from PGIMER under tight security.
A special flight from Pakistan came at around 5.25 and flew back within ten minutes after taking away Sanaullah’s body and his family members to Pakistan.
The post-mortem and other medical reports of Sanaullah are awaited.
It is worth mentioning that Sanaullah was in deep coma ever since he was flown in here from Jammu last Friday. He was serving life imprisonment at Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal Jail. Members of Ranjay’s family had arrived here Tuesday from Pakistan.
Ranjay was arrested in 1996 and charged with involvement in a bomb blast at Katra near the Hindu shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in 1994 which left 10 people dead. He was serving life term in the Jammu jail. Both India and Pakistan have once again called upon each other to hold discussions to see how the treatment of their prisoners in each other’s jails can be improved.
The call for better condition for these prisoners was made by New Delhi and Islamabad shortly after Pak prisoner Sanaullah died in a Chandigarh hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Similarly, Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh too died in a Pak hospital last week having sustained serious injures in an attack by some fellow inmates in a jail in Lahore.
In a statement on Thursday, the Pak government called upon India to have “ focused discussions on the conditions of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails and repatriate those who have already completed their sentences as per the consular access agreement between Pakis-tan and India.” India too reiterated its suggestion that New Delhi and Islamabad that both sides need to take stock of the measures that are in place at present for ensuring the safety, security and huma-ne treatment of prisoners in each other’s jails.
New Delhi also said that there is an urgent need to examine the recommendations of the India-Pakistan joint judicial committee that visited Pakistani jails between April 26 and May 1.
