Salman Rushdie withdraws from Jaipur Lit Fest

British novelist Salman Rushdie withdrew on Friday from India's largest literary festival going on in Jaipur saying that he feared assassination after his participation was opposed by hardline Muslim groups.

"I therefore will not be coming," the Indian-born writer said in a statement read by the producer of the Jaipur Literary Festival, Sanjoy Roy.
