Salim Kumar wins Kerala film award
After winning the national award, Salim Kumar was named the best actor by the Kerala Government for his sterling performance in 'Adaminte Makan Abu' (Abu, son of Adam).
The film directed by Salim Ahmed won the best movie award by the jury headed by eminent film-maker Budhadeb Dasgupta. Kavya Madhavan bagged the best actress award for her role in 'Gaddama'.
Shyamaprasad was adjudged the best director for his work 'Electra', an adaptation of the famous trilogy of American playwright Eugene O'Neill's 'Mourning becomes Electra'.
The awards were announced at a press meet by minister K B Ganesh Kumar (who is expected to get the film portfolio) in the presence of the jury members.
"I am glad my role has been recognised by the state jury as well. This will give me inspiration and strength to essay many good roles in my career ahead," Salim said.
'Adaminte Makan Abu' (Abu, son of Adam), which narrates the moving tale of an elderly man who intensely wishes to go Meccah to perform Haj despite his strained circumstances, was chosen as the best feature film by the national jury earlier this week.
Mammootty-starrer 'Pranchiyetta and the Saint', directed by blockbuster maker Rajith, was adjudged the most popular film with artistic value.
Mohan Raghavan was chosen as the best directorial debut for his movie 'TD Dasan Standard Six B'. Actor Thalaivasal Vijay received a special jury award for his title role in 'Yuga Purushan', a biopic on saint-reformer Sree Narayana Guru.
Vipin Vijay, who directed 'Chithrasutram' and Premlal for his movie 'Atmakatha' shared a special jury mention for direction. Hariharan bagged the best playback singer award for his song in 'Pattinte Palazhy' and Dr Balamuralikrishna for his classical song in 'Gramam'.
The best female playback singer award went to Rajalakshmi for her rendering in 'Janakan'. M Jayachandran won the award for best music director. Suraj Venjaramood was chosen the best comedian for his performance in 'Orunal Varum'.
