‘Sacred Ganga’ new emotional plank of party
After Ram Janmabhoomi, “Sacred Ganga” seems to be new emotional plank for the Bharatiya Janata Party. The national executive of the party on Friday passed a resolution on Friday for the protection and de-pollution of the Ganga. Uma Bharti, who moved the resolution, will lead the party’s movement. Party president Nitin Gadkari will also form a committee of party leaders to oversee the issue, said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
The BJP demanded that the task of protecting and de-polluting the Ganga be treated as a national mission.
The national executive of the BJP even resolved to launch a mass awareness campaign to mobilise popular support for its demands.
When asked about the need for the BJP to pass this resolution at the party’s national executive meet, Mr Hussain justified it and said that the river passes through four states — Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal — which is why it was taken up at the national forum.
