Ruchika dad: Rathore bid to sway judiciary
The father of the 14-year-old Chandigarh schoolgirl who committed suicide after she was molested by former Haryana DGP S.P.S. Rathore, has alleged a fresh conspiracy aimed at influencing the judiciary in favour of the disgraced police officer who already stands convicted.
Angrily reacting to newspaper reports stating the Central Bureau of Investigation had failed to find any substance in the fresh — abatement to suicide, attempt to murder and tampering of evidence — charges against Rathore, Mr Subhash Chander Girhotra said this was clearly meant to influence the mind of the Chandigarh district & sessions court. He pointed out that the court is due to deliver twin verdicts on Rathore’s petition challenging his conviction for molesting Ruchika as well as that of the CBI seeking enhancement of the meagre six-month sentence awarded to him by a special court last December.
“We strongly contradict this news story; it is totally baseless and aimed at jeopardising the case proceedings. Rathore has used his clout and got it published,” Mr Girhotra said adding CBI officials handling investigations into the three new FIRs “have clearly stated they are still to reach a final conclusion.”
The three FIRs filed on the basis of separate complaints by Mr Girhotra and Ruchika’s brother Ashu, have been with the CBI for the past four months and it is expected to submit its reports to the Punjab & Haryana high court in the coming days.
