RSS: Modi has trust & respect of people
The RSS on Tuesday contended that Gujarat CM Narendra Modi enjoys “the support and respect of people” who want a “particular change.”
Top brass of the RSS, BJP, VHP and other sangh parivar affilitaes had met last week to formulate poll strategy. Though the RSS claimed that PM candidate issue was not discussed, the RSS top brass conveyed it to the BJP leadership that it should announce the PM candidate soon as there is growing demand from the sangh cadre and Mr Modi is a “popular choice.”
However, a section within the BJP including Mr Advani, Sushma Swaraj and M.M. Joshi are not in favour of the announcement at this juncture. Speculation is rife within the BJP that the party will announce Mr Modi’s name before his birthday which falls on September 17.
“The country wants a change and we also realise it. During the two-day meeting between RSS and BJP this issue came up and it has been conveyed to the leadership in the party. Now the decision has to be taken by them but from our side the message has been given that the voters in the country want a change,” said senior RSS leader Ram Madhav.
When asked if he was referring to Mr Modi when he talked about change, he said, “When we say people want a particular change, it is obvious that the support and respect of the people is for which person and for which post. This is clear to all.”
At the end of a two-day meet, RSS had said that there is no dilemma or turmoil in the party over Mr Modi but the decision on when the PM candidate should be announced has to be taken by the BJP.
