RSS, Modi discuss Hindutva
While the RSS had to intervene to placate Mr L.K. Advani after his resignation drama over Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s elevation, it seems Mr Advani has not won the complete trust of the Sangh Parivar fount. Mr Advani is himself a PM candidate aspirant. Ms Swaraj is considered close to Mr Advani.
Ahead of the BJP parliamentary board meeting on Thursday to discuss poll-related strategy, Mr Modi on Wednesday evening met BJP chief Rajnath Singh. Significantly, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, with whom Mr Modi had a meeting in Nagpur on Tuesday, also arrived in New Delhi Wednesday evening. Some senior BJP leaders are expected to meet Mr Bhagwat amidst speculation within the party that the BJP might announce its PM candidate soon due to cadre pressure.
The RSS top brass, it was learnt, also discussed with Mr Modi how to blend the Hindutva issue with the BJP’s already announced poll planks of good governance and development. Mr Modi had an over two-hour meeting with RSS leaders, including Mr Bhagwat. The issue of Mr Modi’s recent controversial remarks also came up during the meeting. Mr Rajnath Singh had met the RSS top brass at the Sangh’s Amravati meet last week to discuss poll issues.
Sources said that during the parliamentary board meeting the BJP might give final shape to the sub-committees that will be included in the overall campaign committee. Tasks will be allocated to senior leaders as part of poll strategy and the issue of election in-charges might also come up for discussion.

LK: RSS binds us together
AGE CORRESPONDENT
New Delhi, July 17
BJP parliamentary party chief L.K. Advani, who was not comfortable with the RSS’ interference in the saffron party’s affairs, on Wednesday described the Sangh fount head as the “ideological family” which “binds us together”.
Over a month after the RSS intervened to end his revolt against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Mr Advani, at a book release function said, “I always thought that we may have our personal families but our ideological family will always be RSS. This is what binds us together.”
Mr Advani said he joined Jan Sangh because he was among the RSS workers chosen to work for the party after its founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee sought Sangh’s support.
“RSS was never interested in politics before Independence. After that, it served country through various means. It took interested in journalism in Indian languages, tribal welfare...” he said.
