Rs 2.87 lakh cash seized from DMK leader's house in TN
Officials today seized Rs 2.87 lakh cash and some documents relating to voters from the residence of a local DMK leader, the party's election incharge for Theni district for the April 13 assembly polls.
The seizure at the house of M.A.Sheikh here was made by a joint team of Election officials, Police and Income Tax authorities and the cash had not been properly accounted, officials said.
Sheikh, the Chairman of Ramanathapuram Cooperative Marketing Society, is a close confidant of Union Minister and DMK South Zone organising secretary M.K. Alagiri.
Officials said they also seized some documents relating to electors, which they suspected was meant for distributing money to the voters.
A report from Theni district said election officials had directed police to keep a close vigin following information about distribution of money in Chokkathevanpatti, Kadamalaikundu and Ganesapuram.
Opposition parties led by AIADMK have accused DMK of largescale distribution of money to voters and asked the EC to keep a strong vigil to check it.
