Rs 1,064cr funds for Gujarat cleared
While Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh travelled to Patna to inform Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar of having cleared over `4,000 crores under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) last week, the minister informed Gujarat CM Narendra Modi through a letter of having approved upgradation of roads worth `1,064 crores under the rural road flagship scheme.
Last week, Mr Ramesh had announced in the presence of the Bihar chief minister of approval of projects under PMGSY of over `4,000 crores, which, incidentally, is highest since 2008.
After the JD(U) broke ranks with the BJP to end the 17-year-old alliance, the Union ministers are apparently trying to keep the Bihar chief minister in good humour by being generous in approving the state’s demands under various Centrally-sponsored scheme.
However, the Centre, in a contrast to its approach to Bihar, informed Mr Modi of having cleared upgradation of the 2,834-km of roads in Gujarat on Friday last week.
Mr Ramesh in the letter to the Gujrat CM said, a meeting of the pre-empowered committee was held on Friday and the same has recommended upgradation of 921 roads, covering 2,834 km in all across the state.
Mr Ramesh in the letter also said that the formal empowered committee meeting to consider and clear these proposals will be held in the next fortnight, while asking the state government to submit additional proposals, which could be approved by September.
