Row likely as MP son rusticated
In a decision that has the potential to spark a political as well as a racism row, Guru Ghasidas Central University at Bilashpur, nearly 130 km from here, has rusticated Craig Mcleod, son of Ingrid Mcleod, nominated Anglo-Indian member of the Lok Sabha, for allegedly manhandling two professors, university sources said on Monday.
The vice-chancellor announced the rustication of Craig Mcleod, a second-year student of engineering, on Sunday.
The action was taken after the Supreme Court vacated the stay which was granted by the Bilashpur high court on a petition filed by the student earlier. The student was rusticated earlier following a recommendation to this effect by the disciplinary committee of the university which found him guilty of misbehaving with two professors.
The student, however, had obtained a stay order from the high court against his rustication and filed an affidavit seeking pardon from the institution. The university, however, took a tough stand.
