‘Roshini scheme to be launched in Naxal-hit regions on Nov. 1’
The Centre will launch the “Roshini” scheme to train and offer jobs to tribals in the 27 Maoist-affected districts on November 1. The scheme, part of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, will target at least 50 per cent women among its beneficiaries.
Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh said on Thursday that the “Roshini” scheme will seek to reach out 50,000 men and women in the 27 districts among the 78 Integrated Action Programme (IAP) facing Maoist violence. He was speaking at a function “Aajeevika Skill Development Programme in Most Critical Left Wing Extremist Affected Districts” of the country on Thursday.
The scheme seeks to train and place 50,000 tribals into regular jobs after imparting skills to them for which known trainers from the corporate would be roped in. Mr Ramesh said that “Roshni” would be launched in a systematic way on November 1. “These districts, to my mind, constitute the hardcore of the Maoist challenge. The objective is to train and place 50,000 youth,” said the minister. Roshini will be implemented through training partners from the private and public sectors.
