RLD supports Cong on probe
The Congress on Wednesday strongly defended AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s claim that 74 mounds of ash containing human remains have been found in Bhatta Parsaul village of Greater Noida.
The party sought a probe into the incident to check the veracity of the statement.
The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) also supported the Congress demand and sought a high-level judicial probe into the police violence at the Bhatta Parsaul village.
RLD president Choudhury Ajit Singh said in Lucknow that a judicial probe would expose the truth before the people.
“We stand by every word that Mr Gandhi has said on this issue. If the government believes otherwise, it should order a thorough probe into the incident,” said Mr Digvijay Singh, AICC general secretary, while talking to reporters in Varanasi.
The Uttar Pradesh government had earlier termed as “false and misleading” the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi.
Mr Singh said that whatever Mr Gandhi said was on the basis of his stay in the village and his interaction with the people of the area.
“If the chief minister (Mayawati) is so sure of what she has said, then she should order a high level probe into the incident. Why is she avoiding a probe?” Mr Singh asked.
