Rival BJP camps cautious
Karnataka chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Sunday expressed the hope that Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa would emerge unscathed in the ongoing legal battle.
Meanwhile, an uneasy calm prevailed in rival camps in the BJP, with both sides non-committal on their future course of action. A source close to the BSY camp said they were not in a hurry to do anything at a time when the former CM was passing through a critical phase in his political career. “He was arrested on Saturday and we cannot be sitting here on Sunday chalking out our future course of action. Our priority is to see he becomes free. We have sent a strong message to our rival camp not to indulge in politicking by taking advantage of BSY’s arrest. They have reciprocated and so, we decided to meet him at the hospital under Mr Gowda’s leadership,” the source explained.
A source in the rival Jagadish Shettar camp said that they would not like to pre-empt another crisis at a time when the party is in bad shape. “Mr Yeddyurappa’s arrest is a setback and has dented the BJP’s image. We need some time to recover,” the source explained.
The Congress decided to up the ante against the government, with Opposition leader Siddaramaiah demanding the dismissal of the BJP government.
