Riots: Khap head among 85 booked
Eighty-five persons, including a khap council head and his two sons, have been booked by the police for their alleged involvement in the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas.
According to police reports, the case was registered on Saturday after some riots victims filed a complaint, alleging that their houses at Lisadh village in Fugana were burnt during the violence. The 85 accused, including khap council head Baba Harikishan Singh and his two sons, have been booked under section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) 395 (punishment for dacoity), Section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) of the IPC. No arrest has been made so far.
Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts witnessed violent communal clashes following an eve teasing incident on August 27 in which three youth were killed.
