RIL tenders apology to minister
On a day when Mr P. Chidambaram dismissed allegations that he was a beneficiary of the 2G spectrum scam and pointed out that the alleged defamatory remarks on his alleged role were not made by former telecom minister A.
Raja but an employee of RIL, K. Ramachandran Raja, Reliance Industries Ltd. on Wednesday quickly tendered a “profuse apology” to the home minister. The BJP had sought Mr Chidambaram’s resignation over the issue maintaining that the purported conversation between “Raja” and corporate lobbyist Niira Radia shows that the home minister was a beneficiary in the 2G scam . The conversation is allegedly part of Radia’s taped conversations given by the Income Tax department to the CBI for the 2G scam probe.
“I know that my friend Shri Prakash Javadekar, spokesperson of the BJP, will be disappointed. I offer him my sympathies,” Mr Chidambaram said.
