Recruitment boards for prasar?
The Union government is soon likely to announce the establishment of a recruitment board for Prasar Bharati to urgently fill up backlog in vacancies created by non-recruitment of staff for over a period of almost two decades.
With a new information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari firmly taking charge of the department the green signal to the board, and impending recruitment drive, is expected anytime.
The proposal to set up a separate recruitment board for Prasar Bharati has been under inter-ministerial consultation for the last two years.
The recruitment board was proposed after the broadcasting body came under criticism for ad hoc appointments. There has been no recruitment in the Prasar Bharati for the last almost two decades, resulting in a severe staff shortage that has crippled its functioning. In 2011, the GoM examining various issues related to functioning of Prasar Bharati looked into the issue and recommended that 3,452 posts should be filled up.
