Ready for a German jaunt
Thiruvananthapuram: Twenty students from Christ Nagar International School, Thiruvananthapuram, are going to get a taste of going to school in Germany for two weeks this month as part of the ‘Indo-German’ classroom project.
Supported by Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi, the year-long project is meant to enhance the intercultural competencies of the students who will be at Hauhenstaufen Gymnasium School in Kaiserlautern, located an hour away from Frankfurt.
“The students from both schools will host each other for two weeks. The Indian students will stay with the families of their German counterparts, one in each house, and vice versa. Picked from Classes 10, 11 and 12, they have been working on projects that deal with the IT revolution and and its social and cultural consequences in Kaiselautern and Thiruvananthapuram,” says Fr Josey Kollammalil CMI, director of Christ Nagar International School.
Some of the areas his students have looked at are, the advent of IT in Thiruvananthapuram, the inception of Technopark and its influence in various fields, such as medicine, banking, music, movies and art.
Preeti K. and Geeta Nayar, faculty at Christ Nagar International School, are the heads of the teams. The students, who will return on June 30, and host their German friends in December.
The students have been divided into two groups, headed by Ranjith Padmakumar and Ashwin S. John respectively.
“We have been in touch with the German students and have bought gifts for them too. To enliven the stay, we have also been practising dance and are taking some Kerala food along,” says Ranjith.
