Razing Campa Cola Compound to cost Rs 1.9 cr
The estimated cost of demolishing the illegal floors of seven buildings in Worli’s Campa Cola Compound will be `1.90 crore and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will recover it from the residents.
“We had invited tenders for the demolition job, for which we received three responses. The contractor from among the three bidders will be finalised by mid-September. The BMC will recover the demolition cost from the residents,” said additional municipal commissioner Mohan Adtani.
According to the civic officials, October 2 is the last date for the Campa Cola residents to vacate their buildings. After that the demolition work will begin and it will take about six months to complete.
The civic body had decided to raze the 35 illegal floors in the Campa Cola buildings after the Supreme Court had refused to regularise them. The corporation subsequently served a 48-hour evacuation notice to occupants of 99 illegal flats. However, residents immediately approached the Bombay high court seeking a stay on the notice. The HC rejected the plea. This had forced them to move the SC, which on May 2 gave them a five-month period to evacuate. This period comes to an end on October 2.
The review petition filed by the Campa Cola residents has also recently been turned down by the SC. Hence all decks have been cleared for the BMC to demolish the illegal floors, said a civic official.
The illegal floors of the buildings Midtown, Esha Ekta Apartments, Shubh Apartments, Patel Apartments (two buildings), BY Apartments and Orchid in Campa Cola Compound will be demolished.
While the builders were granted permission for ground-plus-five floors, Midtown went up to 20 floors, Orchid to 17, Esha Ekta to eight, Shubh to seven and BY and Patel to six floors each.
