Raped student given Rs 1,500 to remain silent
Visakhapatnam: A 11-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a 30-year-old man in Kasimkota area near hear and elders of the village tried to dissuade the victim’s kin from a lodging a police complaint by offering them Rs 1,500 for medial expenses.
Though the incident took place on Friday night, it came to light only on Sunday morning after the family of the victim went ahead and lodged a complaint with the Kasimkota police station.
Rapist flees after act
According to reports, the 11-year-old girl and Class VII student had gone to a sugarcane farm on Friday evening. Seeing the girl alone, 30-year-old N. Appa Rao, a farmer from the same village, forced her into a casuarina grove and raped her.
The girl went home crying and narrated what had happened to her parents. Hesitant to approach the police at first, the parents approached the village elders, who told them not to make the matter public and offered them Rs 1,500 for medical expenses.
The parents then lodged a complaint at the Kasimkota police station.
SI P. Srinivasa Rao said that a case was registered under IPC Section 376 (rape) and the girl was admitted to a hospital. Her condition is stable. Appa Rao is absconding.
