Rape victim’s tongue cut off

In a shocking incident, the tongue of a minor gangrape victim was chopped off in Pratapgarh district, late on Wednesday night.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital and her condition is said to be serious due to excessive blood loss. Doctors say she may have to live with speech impairment all her life.
According to police reports, the minor girl had been gangraped on January 22 and was scheduled to give her statement before the court on July 24.
Her father has already recorded his statement in the case.
The main accused is in jail but the other two accused persons are on the run.
The girl’s family had lodged a complaint with the police that they were being pressurised to withdraw their complaint against the accused.
The girl’s family had claimed that they were facing pressure to withdraw the case. The family said that Lalji, the brother of the main accused, had attacked the girl with a sickle so that she may not be able to give her statement in court. There were three other accomplices in the crime.
IG (law and order) R.K. Vishwakarma told reporters in Lucknow that the police had launched a manhunt for the main accused person while one of the co-accused Indel had been arrested. Further investigations were on.
