Ramdev moved to D’dun hospital
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev was rushed to a hospital in Dehra Dun after his health deteriorated on Friday, the seventh day of his fast. The local administration’s move to hospitalise Ramdev was taken at the direction of Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.
Swami Agnivesh, who met Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee to discuss the yoga guru’s health, told this newspaper that “there is no point in Ramdev continuing his fasting since he himself told his followers to end their fast”. Swami Agnivesh also maintained that the fast should be ended “since Ramdev’s demands have been met”. Mr Mukherjee briefed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on “our meeting”, Swami Agnivesh claimed.
While Congress spoke-sperson Janardhan Dwivedi merely said, “We wish him a healthy and long life,” government sources indicated that it was up to the BJP-led government to provide him medical facilities. Incidentally, the ban against Ramdev in New Delhi continues; he has been barred from entering the national capital till June 18.
The BJP and RSS expressed concern about his health. BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said “Ramdev’s life is very important to the nation” while the RSS accused the Congress of launching a “vicious campaign against the yoga guru”.
While Ramdev’s political support base remained confined to the saffron camp, controversy continued to rage over his assets since his declaration did not cover the entire range of his business empire and alleged shadow companies.
In Hardwar high drama continued as doctors monitoring Ramdev’s health advised immediate hospitalisation. However, the health of his close aide, Balkrishna, who too was on fast, was reported to be normal.
