Raman Reoti Singh to face CB on Monday
Samajwadi Party leader and Lok Sabha MP from Allahabad Raman Reoti Singh, who was to appear before the crime branch of the Delhi Police for questioning in connection with the 2008 cash-for-votes scam, will now present himself before it on Monday.
Singh’s alleged role in the scam surfaced after Delhi police investigators found that he was in touch with Sanjeev Saxena, a close aide of Amar Singh.
Saxena was the first accused arrested in the case. Crime branch officials said Singh informed them on Saturday that he will appear before them on Monday.
"The call detail records of Reoti Raman Singh’s mobile phone indicate that he was in touch with some people who are believed to be involved in the scam," said a senior crime branch official.
Suhail Hindustani, a saffron party worker who has also been arrested in the case, has alleged that he met Singh at a plush hotel in central Delhi to fix the price for each MP willing to abstain from voting during the crucial floor test in 2008, the official added.
BJP MP Ashok Argal, at whose residence the entire cash-for-votes drama unfolded in 2008, and Sudheendra Kulkarni, a former close L.K. Advani aide who allegedly played a role in the episode, will also face questioning this week, sources said.
The investigators are, meanwhile, scrutinising the bank records of some politicians and businessmen to unravel the source of Rs1 crore that was offered to the BJP MPs to abstain from voting during the trust vote.
