Rajnath asks Akhilesh to allow VHP yatra
BJP president Rajnath Singh has asked the Akhilesh government to lift the ban on the VHP’s 84 Kosi yatra and respect Hindu sentiments.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr Singh said that if the saints wanted to take out the yatra, the state government should have respected their sentiments and allowed the same. “In case, there are any security issues, the state government has security forces to take care of it. In the name of apprehensions, any religious community cannot be asked to forego their rituals and programmes,” he said.
Senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal, meanwhile, told reporters in Allahabad that the VHP yatra would be taken out at all costs and the saints were willing to brave bullets if the situation demanded so.
“Imposition of prohibitory orders will not deter us and we will take out our yatra. Let us see how the state government stops us,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters that permission for the yatra had been denied because this was not a part of tradition.
“The 84 Kosi yatra is taken out during Ram Navmi in April and that has already been done. We cannot allow any new traditions to take place because the Supreme Court has clearly stated so,” he said.
