Rajasthan HC grants bail to co-accused in Ajmer dargah bomb blast

The Rajasthan high court on Wednesday granted bail to the co-accused in Ajmer dargah bomb blast, which led to the death of three persons in 2007.

A single-judge bench of the high court granted bail to Chandrashekher on the condition of furnishing bond and surety of Rs 2 lakh in total.

Chandrasheker, a resident of Indore was arrested near his home town on May 1, 2010 following police surveillance of his mobile numbers which showed his close association with other accused in the blasts.

In all, eight mobile handsets were purchased for the blasts and some SIM cards were procured by the accused giving fake identities, prosecution sources said.

The SIMs were found operational on the mobile handsets used by Chandrashker for some time, and this period coincided with the time the blasts took place.

It was alleged by the prosecution that Chandrasheker is a perpetrator of the offence and actively aided the extremists to bomb the dargah on October 11, 2007.

He destroyed certain mobiles used in the entire incident.

It was argued by Basant Chabba, the counsel for the accused, that the petitioner has been chargsheeted for shielding the offenders by destroying the evidence. However, he argued that the accusations need yet to be proved by trial.

Two pilgrims were killed and nine others, including a child, were injured in the terror attack when a crude bomb went off at the sufi shrine of Khawaja Moinuddhin Chishti in Ajmer where thousands of devout had gathered to break their day-long Ramzan fast.
