Rajasthan governor Prabha Rau dies

New Delhi, April 26: Rajasthan governor Prabha Rau breathed her last following a cardiac arrest in New Delhi on Monday. She was 75.

 

Rau was found unconscious in the bathroom at Jodhpur House on Monday morning. She was rushed to AIIMS at 11 am. A team of doctors was constituted to observe her but she was declared her dead at 12.30 pm. Her body was taken back to Jodhpur House where people paid floral tribute.

 

On hearing the news, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot and other dignitaries had rushed to AIIMS.

President Patil said Rau had been a close associate and in her demise the nation has lost a person who loved the people. A known Nehru-Gandhi family loyalist, Rau is survived by two daughters. Her husband died long ago. Her body will be taken to her native Kolhapur village in Maharashtra’s Wardha district on Tuesday and will be accorded a full state funeral.
