Rajasthan: Exercise to rope in Cong panels for polls falls flat
The exercise to rope in block Congress committees to shortlist candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections has proved futile. The Congress has now asked aspirants to submit their applications in a prescribed proforma introduced by the AICC.
Ticket-seekers have been asked to submit their forms to the district committees. It left several aspirants who submitted their forms with the block-level committees disappointed. But it also rekindled hope among the aspirants whose names were not recommended by the block committees. “It is a good move because the block committee refused to include my name. The local committee was working under the patronage of the local MLA,” said a party worker in Sikar.
According to the PCC, the new format is designed to include all details and ensure that only candidates with a clean image find a place. “The Congress has introduced a more judicious format and it will prevent favouritism and nepotism,” said a senior leader. The aspirants can submit their forms till August 17 and subsequently the DCC refers them to the PCC,” said a party functionary.
