Rajasthan baby out of hospital
Nine-week-old baby girl Damini was discharged from the Fortis Hospital on Monday. The case had drawn attention the world over when Damini was seen slung to her father’ s chest as he ferried passengers on his rickshaw in Bharatpur. Her father Bablu, a rickshaw-puller, was overjoyed when the infant was handed over to him.
Health minister A.A. Khan and Bharatpur district magistrate G.P. Shukla were present at the hospital when Damini was discharged. The hospital management organised a function to bless the infant.
“When she was brought here she weighed only 1,400 grams. She had difficulty in breathing and low blood pressure,” said Dr J.K. Mittal who treated the infant. “During the treatment, she gained 700 grams and is now normal,” he said. “But she needs attention and proper care,” Dr Mittal added. The medical staff counselled Bablu and gave him tips to take care of the infant.
“I will follow the instruction given by the doctor,” Bablu said.
“Mere liye to Damini hi jeevan hai, agar aaj meri wife jinda hoti to bahut khush hoti (For me, Damini is life had my wife been alive, she would have been very happy),” Bablu said. Help has poured in from all quarters and Damini’s father’s bank account has received donations amounting more than `15 lakhs.
