A Raja defence is not new, says DMK
DMK members are not surprised at the former Union telecom minister A. Raja dragging the names of Prime Minister and the then finance minister P. Chidambaram into his line of spectrum defence.
In fact, a section of the party cadre is happy that the beleaguered Raja has 'at least now' put forth a 'strong defence' to try and protect himself.
“It is nothing new for us. He has been saying for long that he merely followed his predecessors and the PM and FM approved the flow of foreign investment to some companies. We don’t know why the media is sensationalising it”, quipped a DMK senior.
Karunanidhi chose not to comment on the latest bombshell. He had earlier stated that Raja had followed predecessors Arun Shourie and Dayanidhi Maran in not auctioning spectrum.
“Raja is in jail for the last five months. He has been maintaining that his ministry has nothing to do with Unitech Wireless and Swan Telecom attracting huge investments from foreign partners. We are not surprised,” said a former minister.
The party senior said his accusation had nothing to do with the decision turning down Congress offer of cabinet berths.
