Raja Bhaiyya quits over DSP’s killing
Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh, also known as Raja Bhaiyya, resigned on Monday after he was booked for the murder of a senior police officer in Pratapgarh on Sunday night.
The officer’s widow, in her complaint, had named Raja Bhaiyya and five others as accused in her husband’s killing.
Raja Bhaiyya has demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire incident which he claimed was a “political conspiracy by my rivals”.
Parveen Azad, the widow of the slain police officer Zia-ul-Haq, refused to allow the burial of her husband’s body in Deoria unless all the accused were arrested.
UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav flew to Deoria on Monday evening to persuade the widow to allow the burial to go ahead and assure the family that the culprits would be brought to book. He agreed to the widow’s demand for a CBI probe and gave the family two cheques of `25 lakh each. “Action will be taken. Anybody who is accused, no matter how big the person is, he will be sent to jail. A CBI probe will be ordered,” Mr Akhilesh Yadav told reporters.
After the chief minister’s visit, the body of the slain officer was buried. UP DGP
