Raja: Achary being tutored
Jailed former communications minister A. Raja on Monday accused key prosecution witness Asservatham Achary of being “tutored” and claimed that he had been the CBI’s source since 2009, an allegation denied by the investigating agency.
Senior counsel for Raja Sushil Kumar said that Achary, who was the additional private secretary of Raja, was a “false and tutored” witness who had been towing the CBI’s line and “parroting” what he has been taught.
“He remembers only what he has been taught. He is towing the line of the prosecution. I can give you (CBI) photos and videos proving that. He (Achary) is in your pocket,” Mr Kumar said. The defence alleged that the CBI made a “false witness” to connect other accused to Raja when they found no document corroborating that. The cross-examination in the high-profile 2G scam began after a week’s break on Monday.
After the intermittent levelling of accusation by the defence counsels, public prosecutor A.K. Singh retaliated saying, “It is highly objectionable. Now you are crossing your limits.”
