The crime branch wing of the Orissa police on Sunday raided offices of several non-banking chit offices in different parts of the state and seized computers, cash and other equipment.
Besides, the investigating agency also took into custody half a dozen persons — taking the total number of arrested persons to 200.
The CB has so far raided offices of 100 non-banking chit fund organisations in the state.
Bijay Kumar Sharma, the additional director general (ADG) of CB who is leading the raid operations against the chit funds agencies that have duped crores of rupees from thousands of investors, on Sunday said as many as one hundred cases were registered against chit fund agencies.
“We have registered nearly one hundred cases and arrested nearly 200 persons. Although returning the money of the investors is a complex issue, we make our best of the efforts that the investors get back their deposits,” Mr Sharma said.
The ADG on Sunday visited Balsore, the northern Orissa district which has reported the highest number of cheating cases.
