Rahul visits NRHM office, slain CMO kin
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, set the stage for another face-off between the Congress and the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party when he made an unscheduled visit to the office of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) here to inquire about the financial irregularities that were responsible for the murders of two chief medical officers posted in the department.
Mr Gandhi, who was scheduled to visit Gauriganj in Amethi on Wednesday, arrived at the Fursatganj airport in the afternoon and headed towards Lucknow instead. The Congress leader was accompanied by UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
Mr Gandhi went straight to the NRHM office on the Vidhan Sabha Marg where the UPCC president filed an application under the RTI seeking information about disbursement of funds. The two page application under RTI was filed by Dr Joshi in the presence of Mr Gandhi.
Mr Gandhi stayed in the NRHM office for about half-an-hour and inquired about the working and allegations of misappropriation of funds.
The media was not allowed to enter the office while Mr Gandhi was there. The staff of NRHM was also taken by complete surprise over the VVIP visit.
