Rahul targets Mulayam too, besides Maya
The Congress in Uttar Pradesh is clearly getting aggressive and in no mood to spare any of its rivals.
Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi, on the second day of his five-day yatra, chose to target the Samajwadi Party and its leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, as well as Mayawati. Till now he had restricted himself to attacks on the BSP.
The Congress looks determined to position itself not only as a viable alternative in UP but also as the only secular force.
Addressing party workers at Bahraich Wednesday, Mr Gandhi questioned the SP’s secular credentials, noting it had allied with leaders like Kalyan Singh for the sake of power.
Mr Gandhi said he too had learnt a few things from Mulayam Singh Yadav. “But today he is not there with you. His anger over injustice is no longer visible. Both Mulayam Singh and Mayawati have become big leaders. They don’t feel for the poor any more. They travel only by helicopter.”
