Rahul sharpens SP, BSP attack
The attacks are getting sharper as he moves deeper into the heartland of Uttar Pradesh.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused UP chief minister Mayawati of being blissfully ignorant of the ground realities in her own state.
“She is surrounded by bureaucrats who tell her that everything is fine in Uttar Pradesh. She does not move out and when she does, she moves in helicopters and let me tell you that everything does seem perfect from that height. It is only when you travel on ground and see everything closely that you realise what all is wrong,” he said while addressing a rally in Tilhar in Shahjahanpur.
Mr Gandhi once again blamed the state government for misappropriation of funds sent by the Centre for MNREGS programme and Bundelkhand. “We sent `3,000 crore for Bundelkhand and the money was pocketed by ministers. It is the people of Bundelkhand who suffered in the bargain,” he said.
He trained his guns at Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and said that the latter did not want the poor people to progress in life and asked them not to learn English and computers. “But for his own son, he ensured that he learnt English as well as computers. Today when his son meets me, he talks in English and works on the computer,” he said.
Mr Gandhi said that both Ms Mayawati and Mr Mulayam Singh lacked vision and the ability to look into the future.
Comparing them with his father, the late Rajiv Gandhi, Mr Rahul Gandhi said that his father had spoken about computers and mobile phones, more than 20 years ago and both are now a part of life today.
