Rahul’s kisan rally in Aligarh

After being denied permission to hold the kisan maha panchayat in Bhatta Parsaul village, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will now address the maha panchayat in Aligarh on July 9. According to a UPCC release, the Aligarh administration has granted permission for the event.

Mr Gandhi, sources said, was keen to hold the maha panchayat in Bhatta Parsaul villages that had witnessed violence on May 7 when farmers clashed with the police over compensation issues over land acquisition.
However, the state government was unwilling to allow the twin villages to become the focus of farmers’ agitation under the Congress leadership.
Meanwhile, a government release on Saturday clarified that the residents of Bhatta Parsaul villages did not want any panchayat to be held there and had requested the local administration not to give permission for the same.
