Rahul faces protests from bku activists
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday faced protests from Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) activists on the second day of his Amethi visit at the Munshiganj guest house where he is staying. The BKU activists wanted to apprise the Congress leader of the anomalies in development projects in Amethi but were denied a meeting.
Later, on hearing them shout slogans, Mr Gandhi called in the BKU workers and heard their grievances and assured them of all possible help. “Amethi has poles but no electricity, hand pumps have gone dry and roads have disappeared into potholes. We told Mr Rahul Gandhi about all this and he has assured that he would look into the matter. He has said that new hand pumps would be installed soon and work in the Rajiv Gandhi rural electrification project would also be taken up,” said Raj Kishore, a BKU activist. Meanwhile, for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, Mr Gandhi faced a volley of complaints from congress workers.
After giving a patient hearing to them, he asked them to forget the past and sink personal differences to strengthen the party. Confronted with lack of employment opportunities for the youth in Amethi, he announced the opening of a national paper mill that would give employment to 8,000 people.
